Spoiler Ahead! The film starts with Alejandra, who is a young hospital administrator in Mexico City. She marries at a young age to Arturo. The pressure for children from her husband and in-laws grew stronger slowly. They want children, but Ale has suffered three miscarriages. She asked Arturo to adopt a child, but he refused. During her hospital duty, she started bleeding; instead of admitting the loss of the pregnancy, she began to fake a pregnancy by gaining weight. She forged medical documents using her access to the hospital, took maternity leave, and celebrated a baby shower.
As the due date approached, the lie became impossible to hide. What happened next was the most shocking public scandal in Mexico in 2009. The first part of the story shows the fabricated story, while the second part is mostly about the real interview and a complete documentary-style film.
In June 2009, a 26-year-old woman, Eleonor Alejandra Marín Mendoza, left the Hospital General de México with a shopping bag. She had been an employee at the same hospital for years. The footage showed that she was carrying a baby in that shopping bag. Later, Police officials arrested Ale and her husband, Arturo, at the Hotel Hollywood Villa & Suites. The baby, Katia Valentina, was safely returned to her mother, Mayra Navarro.
For the crime, Alejandra was sentenced to 13 years and 4 months in prison. Aurturo was in prison for two and a half years before being released. At the time, the case received massive media attention across the country in Mexico. The dramatic crime raised questions about truth, consent, and mental pressure.
Alejandra came out of jail after serving her full sentence in 2023. Arturo and Ale got separated because he still wanted his own biological child. While Ale was in jail, he had a son with another woman. She returned to Ale, and they are currently living together in Mexico and are raising the child as his parents.
