Big revision of our Exclusive Chinese Brands Guide, now down to 161

Dreame has folded just one year after appearing.

It was high time to look closely at our Exclusive Chinese Brands Guide and make sure all brands are still active and which ones have been discontinued. We are in the middle of an intense price war in China which, combined with a reduced overall volume (roughly -20%), has forced many carmakers to throw in the towel. However, the long predicted implosion of the number of active brands has not really happened. I would rather speak of a decrease and not an implosion. We have counted over 20 discontinued brands, bringing the total active amount to a still astonishing 161.

Among the defunct carmakers, we find BeyonCa, COS, Docan, Enoreve, Grove, Gyon, Hycan, Jiyue, JuneYao, Lark, Pocco, Radten, Techrules, Thunder Power, Xiaohu, YTO and Yuanhang.

The most striking demise (and the most recent) is without context that of Dreame. Only one year after entering the automotive market, the vacuum and cleaning robot manufacturer shut down its automotive division and abandoned its electric vehicle plans this month in August 2026. Dreame liquidated its “Starry Sky” (or “Star Project”) automotive venture, which had promised high-performance electric vehicles and supercars like the rocket-boosted Nebula Next 01. The company promised an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 0.9 seconds, a performance that turned out to be a dream.
