A woman was struck by a car Friday night while trying to cross Route 50 in Fairfax County, Virginia, in a wheelchair and later died.
Police said officers were called to the intersection of Route 50 and Plaza Lane in Greenbriar shortly before 7:30 p.m.
Theresa Flynn, 53, of Chantilly, was in a manual wheelchair and moving northwards across the roadway when she was struck by a Kia Rio heading west, detectives said.
Flynn was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the Kia wasn’t injured and stayed on the scene.
Authorities said alcohol and speed did not appear to play a role for the driver.
