Clouds and rain in DC region as major storm hits Eastern Shore

    After a dry morning, Saturday will bring wet, breezy conditions to the D.C. area into Sunday, thanks to a nor’easter centered off the East Coast.

    “We’ll have plenty of clouds around for today, and a bit of rain at times with a high of 70,” AccuWeather meteorologist La Troy Thornton said. “And there could still be some rain around the area for tonight.”

    If you’re in Ocean City or Delmarva, dangerous coastal conditions are expected along the Maryland and Virginia Eastern Shore this weekend, with flooding, large waves and a high risk of rip currents, according to the National Weather Service.

    The Service has extended a coastal flood warning for Maryland beaches and Virginia’s Accomack and Northampton counties through noon Sunday. Forecasters say low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways could see two to three feet of flooding above ground level. Ocean City wind gusts expected near 50 mph, with rough surf and erosion concerns.

    A high surf advisory is also in effect until 7 a.m. Sunday, with breaking waves of 8 to 12 feet possible in the surf zone. A beach hazards statement will remain in effect through Sunday evening because of a high risk of dangerous rip currents.

    Otherwise, in the D.C. region, Saturday will bring plenty of clouds and a breeze through at least into the evening, with a low of 60.

    “It may still stay gusty, especially early in the day Sunday, but again, bring your umbrella if you’re heading outside,” Thornton said. “We’ll have a bit of rain still in the area, and again, sunshine will be limited if there’s any at all.”

    Expect temperatures on Sunday to hit around 67 and the same for Monday. Once the rain pulls away by Monday, clouds will linger, “but it’s a touch warmer by this point with a high of 71,” Thornton added.

    Tuesday is expected to be even warmer with clouds and sun and a high of 77. More clouds will arrive Wednesday, but it will be warmer still with a high around 81.
