Remember when pickup trucks weren’t afraid to wear more than one color? Ford certainly does, and the 2027 F-150 is dipping into the company’s deep well of truck nostalgia with a new Two-Tone package available through Ford Custom Garage. The treatment adds a contrasting accent that wraps around the truck between the floorline and waistline, giving today’s F-150 a visual connection to the classic Ford pickups of the 1970s and 1980s. Those older trucks often wore their contrasting paint proudly, and the look became almost as recognizable as the boxy bodies and chrome bumpers of the era.
Two-tone paint used to be a popular thing, particularly when pickups were becoming more than bare-bones work vehicles, and we think Ford hopes to target those within a certain generation to take the two-tone bait. Anyone who grew up around Bumpside and Dentside Fords, or remembers when a contrasting body stripe was an upscale touch rather than a retro styling exercise, will probably understand the appeal immediately. It is also an interesting change of pace after years of blacked-out appearance packages, monochromatic bodywork and increasingly aggressive styling. Sometimes a little color contrast is all it takes to make a familiar truck stand out again.
There is a catch, though, because Ford isn’t opening the option to every 2027 F-150 buyer. The Two-Tone package is limited to XLT and Lariat SuperCrew models equipped with the 5.5-foot bed and 145-inch wheelbase. Ford is initially offering three accent colors, Oxford White, Carbonized Gray and Agate Black, although additional choices could eventually join the lineup. The package comes through Ford Custom Garage, giving buyers another dealer-installed personalization option without having to venture into the aftermarket.
Pricing has not yet been announced, so we’ll have to wait to see how much Ford believes that extra splash of nostalgia is worth. Still, the concept makes plenty of sense for the F-150. Trucks have become enormously customizable machines, and not everyone wants their pickup covered in black trim or dressed to look like it is heading for an off-road trail. The 2027 F-150 Two-Tone package instead reaches backward for inspiration, and for buyers old enough to remember when two-color pickups were everywhere, Ford may have found an easy way to make a brand-new F-150 feel pleasantly familiar.
