Iceland September 2026: Tesla leads, Leapmotor up to record 7.7% share, places 3 models in Top 20

The Leapmotor B03X lands directly at #11 for its first month of sales in Iceland.

The Icelandic new car market skids -12.5% year-on-year in September to just 935 units, meaning the year-to-date tally is now off -14.7% to 10,107. As usual in end of quarter months, Tesla (-57%) ranks first but this time despite a daunting year-on-year loss to 16.5% share (it held 33.5% a year ago). The American brand ranks #3 year-to-date vs. #2 over the Full Year 2025. Toyota (+54.7%) drops to #2 while Kia (+50%) is up five spots on last month to #3, retaining the YTD top spot. Outstanding performance by newcomer Leapmotor up to a record 4th place with 7.7% share. Smart (+450%), Xpeng (+142.1%), BYD (+48.1%) and Mercedes (+17.9%) all defy the negative market with stunning YoY upticks.

Model-wise, the Tesla Model Y is a distant leader at 15% share. It distances the Toyota Land Cruiser repeating at #2 and the Smart #5 up to a record third place for its 5th straight Top 10 finish. Leader last month, the Xpeng G6 is down to a still very satisfying 4th position while the Kia EV5 lodges its first Top 20 finish directly into #5. Leapmotor places the C10 at #6, the new B03X directly at #11 for its first month of sales and the B05 at #17 for its first Top 20 finish. Other great performers include the Mercedes GLC at #10, the Nissan Leaf at #14 and the Mercedes GLB at #18.
