Mini has spent decades building cars with plenty of personality, but serious off-road intent has rarely been part of the formula. That changes somewhat for 2027 with the new Countryman Untamed Edition, a more rugged take on the brand’s largest crossover. It does not suddenly turn the Countryman into a rock-crawling SUV, but it does give buyers more clearance, tougher tires, added protection, and a design that looks much more comfortable parked beside a trailhead than outside a trendy coffee shop.
In North America, the Untamed treatment will be offered on the Countryman S All4 and the all-electric Countryman SE. The gasoline-powered S All4 uses a 241-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. The Countryman SE steps things up with a 308-horsepower dual-motor electric setup. Interestingly, Mini is not applying the Untamed package to the hotter John Cooper Works model, which makes it clear that this version is more about exploring dirt roads and campsites than chasing lap times.

The biggest functional change is a suspension lift that raises the Countryman by 0.6 inch. Combined with new 19-inch wheels and Pirelli Scorpion all-terrain tires, total ground clearance increases by 0.8 inch. That is not an enormous change, but it should make a noticeable difference on gravel roads, rutted trails, and uneven campsites. Mini also retuned the steering, ABS, and stability control systems to better match the altered ride height and more aggressive tires, which should help the Untamed feel properly sorted rather than like a standard Countryman simply wearing chunkier rubber.

Mini also added some sensible protection for owners who actually intend to use the SUV outside the city. Textured material around the wheel arches, lower body panels, and hood is designed to better resist scratches and stone chips, while additional underbody protection should provide some peace of mind on rougher terrain. Visually, the Untamed gets its own dark-finished grille, Dark Steel exterior accents, unique badges, and mountain-inspired paint colors. One of the more interesting choices is Frozen Nomad Blue, a matte finish that fits the adventure-focused theme particularly well.

The outdoorsy treatment continues inside, where the Untamed receives an exclusive blue cabin with mountain logos stitched into the seatbacks. Buyers can also choose brown or black upholstery, while Dark Steel accents help tie the cabin to the exterior. Mini has also redesigned part of the center console with elastic storage straps, and rubber floor and cargo mats should make cleanup easier after muddy hikes or wet gear. It is still unmistakably a modern Countryman inside, complete with Mini’s large circular OLED center display, but there are enough unique details to keep the Untamed from feeling like a simple appearance package.

One of the cooler options is a pop-up rooftop tent developed with Italian camping specialist Autohome. The Countryman’s roof is rated to support 165 pounds while driving and as much as 661 pounds while parked, making the tent a realistic option for two campers. The Untamed also comes standard with a tow hitch and carries a 3,500-pound tow rating, adding another layer of usefulness for buyers who might want to bring along a small trailer, pair of motorcycles, or extra outdoor gear.

Pricing for the 2027 Mini Countryman S All4 Untamed Edition starts at $45,250, putting it well above the standard Countryman S but still within the range of many premium compact SUVs. Pricing for the electric SE Untamed has not yet been announced. Production is expected to begin in late 2026, with the first vehicles arriving in early 2027. The Untamed may not be the Mini you choose for conquering Moab, but for buyers who want a Countryman with more capability, more character, and a genuine weekend-adventure vibe, it might be the most interesting version of the lineup yet.
