Montgomery County Public Schools wants feedback from community on new calendar

A new survey from Montgomery County Public Schools, Maryland’s largest school district, is asking the community to weigh-in on when school should start next year.

This is the second survey on the proposed 2027-2028 school year calendar.

The various proposed start and end dates have the same winter and spring breaks. See below for the proposed start and end timelines:

  • Draft 1: Starts Aug. 24, 2027 (transition day Aug. 23) and ends June 8.
  • Draft 2: Starts Aug. 26, 2027 (transition day Aug. 25) and ends June 12.
  • Draft 3: Starts Aug. 31, 2027 (transition day Aug. 30) and ends June 15.

The survey is available for students, staff members, parents, guardians, care givers, family members and community members.

Residents can vote for one or more calendars, or have the option to select: “I do not prefer any of the current draft versions of the school year 2027-2028 calendar.”

The survey is open through Nov. 6 and is available in eight languages.

A final decision on the calendar is expected to be made Nov. 9.
