Two Montgomery County Public School students brought weapons to the Magruder High School campus in Derwood, Maryland, Thursday morning, police said.

Montgomery County police said it happened in two separate incidents around 8:45 a.m.

While the school was investigating reports of a 15-year-old boy in possession of a gun, police said the student assaulted an MCPS administrator and school security. Police said the 15-year-old was in possession of a BB gun.

The student was arrested and charged with first and second-degree assault, possession of a dangerous weapon on school property and disruption of a school day, police said.

The Department of Juvenile Services has authorized detention of the student, according to police.

While school security was investigating reports of the student with a BB gun Thursday morning, they found a student who was in possession of a knife on campus.

That knife was confiscated from the student. Police said all disciplinary action for the student found with the knife “will be handled administratively through Montgomery County Public Schools.”

MCPS said earlier that both weapons were confiscated and both of the students were originally taken into custody by Montgomery County police.

Around 9:45 a.m., MCPS posted on social media saying that the high school campus was still in a “hold status” from the earlier incidents. The term describes situations where the hallways are kept clear but classes can continue as usual.

Shortly before 10 a.m., the high school had returned to normal operations, MCPS said on social media.
