The D.C. region is bracing for another round of stormy weather and high heat Friday afternoon as cleanup continues from overnight storms that toppled trees and knocked out power for thousands.
“Storm chances back later this afternoon,” 7News Meteorologist Jordan Evans said. “We’ll see that chance at 50% because thunderstorms may stay just south and west of D.C.”
Showers and thunderstorms will likely develop in the afternoon and evening, with the storm chances rising after 3 p.m.
“If storms do arrive, do expect some gusty winds, some heavy rain and even the chance for hail once again,” Evans said.
There’s more certainty about Friday’s temperatures. It will be scorching hot once again; daytime highs are expected to reach into the mid 90s, and heat index values could top 100.
Severe weather threats should decrease overnight, but pockets of heavy rain and frequent lightning are possible.
“A cold front arrives tonight, so we’ll see a drop in temperatures and humidity for the rest of Labor Day weekend,” Evans said.
Showers could linger into Saturday afternoon, but the rest of the Labor Day weekend will be clearer and cooler.
