An 81-year-old woman, missing for two weeks, is the focus of an intense search in Loudoun County, Virginia.
Carolyn Taylor was last seen on the morning of Aug. 23 near Foundry Road and Hughesville Road, southeast of Purcellville, the Loudoun Sheriff’s Office said.
It’s an area where she was known to go for walks, according to authorities.
Since Taylor was reported missing, the sheriff’s office has gotten help from search-and-rescue teams from adjoining counties and from Maryland. Crews and search dogs have been combing the area, sometimes through waist-high grass, looking for any trace of Taylor.
As many as 6,000 acres were searched on foot as of Thursday, officials said.
A drone, all-terrain vehicles and a Fairfax County Fire and Rescue helicopter have also been used in the search.
The Loudoun Times-Mirror reported that Taylor’s son and caregiver was the last person who saw her before her disappearance, and that he is no longer under investigation.
Taylor is white, about 5-foot-3 and around 100 pounds, with blue eyes and white hair. She was last seen wearing blue jeans and a blue sweatshirt.
The sheriff’s office is asking nearby property owners to check buildings and outbuildings and any wooded or grassy areas for any sign of Taylor.
