A 16-year-old girl died and 21-year-old man was wounded in a shooting during an event that police said drew thousands of people to Old Town Manassas, Virginia, on Friday.
The City of Manassas police said it happened shortly before 9:30 p.m. near the Manassas Train Depot.
The man was taken to the hospital in serious but non-life-threatening condition.
No one has been arrested and police are seeking the public’s help in the investigation.
“We had approximately 10,000 people here tonight. We know someone saw something,” Manassas City Police Chief Douglas Keen said at a briefing.
The city closes streets in its downtown on the first Friday of each month for a block party featuring live music and family-friendly activities.
Those with information are asked to call 703-257-8043 or upload photos and video through the police department’s evidence-submission portal. Police said even footage that does not appear to show the incident could be important to the investigation.
“If you’re a parent, if you have children, whether they’re under-age or adult that were here tonight, please speak with them,” Keen said. “Someone saw something. We need our community’s help to help identify the shooters involved in this incident tonight.”
