One person is dead after a multi-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon on Interstate 66 in Fairfax County, according to Virginia State Police.
Troopers were called to the crash around 4:10 p.m. in the westbound I-66 Express Lanes near the Dunn Loring-Merrifield Metro station.
The crash apparently involved a truck that was transporting oxygen and there was an explosion. Road crews are on scene to survey the damage
Traffic had been snarled for hours in the area. But traffic is moving through as of 9:50 p.m.
It remains an active scene. Virginia State Police did not immediately release information about how many vehicles were involved or whether anyone else was injured.
At 4:10 p.m., VSP responded to a fatal, multi-vehicle crash on westbound I-66 in the express lanes at the 64.2-mile marker in Fairfax County. Troopers are currently working on identifying the deceased and notifying next of kin. This is currently an active scene.
