In ARTECHOUSE D.C.’s largest group show to date, “SUBMERGE Project,” attendees can expect a variety of interactive installations powered by artificial intelligence.

They including P3-R, a digital penguin visitors can speak with in real time.

At the immersive digital art gallery in Southwest D.C., WTOP put the chatbot to the test with trick questions, creative challenges and prompts about AI’s limitations to see just how far the conversation could go.

P3-R handled some of the challenges better than others.

It followed instructions when asked to describe Antarctica without using words such as “ice” or “snow,” weighed in on who deserves credit for AI-generated art and openly acknowledged that it can’t reliably answer questions about live news, predictions or experiences it doesn’t actually have.
