Montgomery County Police Chief Marc Yamada has resigned after almost 40 years with the department, effective immediately.
County Executive Marc Elrich released a statement Friday, saying he accepted Yamada’s resignation and thanked him for his service. Elrich appointed Assistant Chief Darren Francke to serve as the acting chief of police until a permanent replacement is chosen, according to the statement.
The Montgomery County Police Department also released a statement Friday, saying it was notified of Yamada’s resignation.
7News reports that Yamada was forced to retire after being under investigation for misappropriating county funds.
