A 60-year-old D.C. man died Tuesday after his electric bicycle collided with a commercial box truck on Rhode Island Avenue NW, according to D.C. police.

Oludare Ayodele Adekoya of Northwest D.C. was riding an e-bike near Logan Circle shortly after 1 p.m. when he collided with a truck in the 1300 block of Rhode Island Avenue, police said.

Officials said Adekoya was coming from the park at Logan Circle and was riding on the wrong side of the road. As he tried to move into the correct lanes, he hit a commercial vehicle that had just turned onto Rhode Island Avenue from Logan Circle.

Adekoya fell from the bicycle and was then run over by the truck, police said. D.C. Fire and EMS found him critically injured and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police said Adekoya was not wearing a helmet.

The truck driver stayed at the scene, and police said there were no signs that the driver was impaired. A separate inspection of the truck found no violations that would have required it to be taken out of service, police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
