After more than a decade away, the Danger Zone Truck & Car Show returned to California on April 4, 2026, and it didn’t take long to find out whether people still remembered the name. Hosted by Dangerous Toys CenCal at River Island Country Club in Porterville, the comeback was limited to just 500 pre-registered vehicles—and those spots sold out quickly.
The last Danger Zone was held in 2014, making the 2026 show the first in 12 years. For anyone who remembers the California mini-truck and custom-truck scene from that era, seeing Danger Zone back on the calendar meant a little more than another Saturday car show. This was the return of a name with some history behind it.
Gauge Magazine has some history with Danger Zone, too. We covered the show back in 2012, when it was held in Visalia, California. Fourteen years later, photographer Cheri Delgadillo was at River Island Country Club to document its return for Gauge.
Bringing back an established show after a 12-year break is one thing. Bringing it back as a pre-registration-only event and filling all 500 available spots is another. That response gave Dangerous Toys CenCal a pretty clear indication that people were ready for Danger Zone again.
River Island Country Club gave the show a setting that looked nothing like a typical fairgrounds parking lot. Custom vehicles were spread across the grass with the foothills surrounding the property, giving the rows of trucks and cars a backdrop that stood out in Cheri’s coverage.
Danger Zone may officially be a truck and car show, but its mini-truck roots were impossible to miss. The 2026 field included Chevrolet S-10s, Nissan Hardbodys, Toyota mini-trucks and Tacomas, Ford Rangers, GMC S-series trucks and plenty of other lowered builds.
There was no shortage of the details that make a good mini-truck show worth slowing down for. Bright graphics, flame jobs, billet wheels, shaved bodywork, laid-out suspensions and detailed engine compartments appeared throughout the grounds. Some trucks carried unmistakable old-school mini-truck styling, while others showed how the scene has continued to evolve since Danger Zone was last held.
The gallery also makes it clear that Danger Zone wasn’t living entirely in the past. Full-size Chevrolet and GMC trucks filled plenty of space alongside C10s, custom SUVs, lifted trucks, classics and cars. The mix included everything from detailed engine bays and heavily painted Silverados to custom Tahoes, Blazers and Escalades.
There were also builds that pushed the show beyond the truck side of the equation. A Chevrolet Impala lowrider wearing layers of blue, purple and turquoise graphics stood out among the classics, while other rows brought in custom sedans, a Nissan 350Z, Honda Civic, BMWs and additional street and show cars.
For Gauge Magazine, seeing Danger Zone return also closes a pretty long loop. Our archives go back to coverage of the show in the August 2012 issue, when Danger Zone was held in Visalia. That earlier coverage is a snapshot of what the West Coast custom scene looked like at the time—especially when mini-trucks and body-dropped customs were a major part of the magazine and show circuit.
Take a look back through Gauge Magazine’s 2012 archives and you’ll find Danger Zone listed alongside the event coverage from that era.
Fourteen years later, the vehicles have changed, styles have evolved and a new generation of builds has entered the scene, but Cheri’s photos from Porterville show plenty of connections to the culture that made Danger Zone memorable in the first place.
Selling out the available vehicle spots before show day gave the organizers a strong start, but the variety on the grounds is what made the return interesting from our side of the camera.
Old-school mini-trucks parked beside newer builds. Classic Chevrolet trucks shared the grounds with late-model full-size customs. Lowriders, SUVs, lifted trucks and cars widened the mix without taking away from the truck-show atmosphere. After being absent since 2014, Danger Zone returned with plenty of the character that made people remember the name in the first place.
