There are questions about the future of Ohio Drive in D.C. after The Washington Post reported that President Donald Trump has been floating the idea of making changes to the roadway so the East Potomac Golf Links could stretch to the nearby water’s edge.
WTOP’s Dave Dildine said pedestrians and cyclists would be among those most affected if that happens.
“It’s a scenic byway and a bikeway, and a place where the public can take in scenic views of the waterfront, The Wharf and Hains Point,” Dildine said. “The loss of that road and access to that park system would certainly be a setback for a lot of people who like to bike, walk, stroll and take in the views.”
According to The Associated Press, the Trump administration last month awarded a contract to begin work at the East Potomac Golf Links.
“Rep. Jared Huffman of California, the panel’s top Democrat, revealed during a committee hearing that the National Park Service hired a civil engineering firm to begin work on the historic public golf course, without any public announcement or heads-up to Congress,” The Associated Press said last month.
The Interior Department, which oversees the National Park Service, has not responded to WTOP’s request for comment.
