1 killed, 1 injured in Capital Beltway crash, police say

One person is dead and another is hospitalized after a single-vehicle crash on the Capital Beltway in Prince George’s County, Maryland, Monday morning.

According to Maryland State Police, the crash happened shortly before 6 a.m. on the Outer Loop of Interstate 495 near Maryland Route 50.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a Subaru Crosstrek crashed into a roadside jersey barrier. It’s not clear what caused the vehicle to crash.

Two people were taken to the hospital, where one person later died. The other person is being treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Police did not publicly identify those involved in the crash.

WTOP Traffic reported before 9:30 a.m. that a couple of lanes on the Beltway reopened. State police are leading the investigation into the crash.
