Heavy rain from Isaias pours into the DC region Sunday

The remnants of Isaias has brought heavy rain and gusty winds as the D.C. region is experiencing a wet Sunday.

A weather alert is in effect as showers will be pouring throughout most of the day, with rainfall totals ranging from around 1 to 2 inches and gusts of up to 30 mph.

The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for the Blue Ridge area, which will be in effect through late Sunday night, as central Virginia could see the most rainfall due to the winds pushing moisture into the mountains.

7News meteorologist Mark Peña said that the rain, “could cause some minor instances of flash flooding of creeks, streams and low-water crossings.”

Those headed to the Washington Commanders’ home game at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, “want to make sure you’re packing the rain gear because that’s when the rain could be heaviest at times,” Peña said.

There’s also a chance of thunderstorms in the evening that, along with the winds, could cause downed trees and power outages. Temperatures will be in the upper 60s.

Even though rain is expected to linger into Indigenous Peoples Day and Columbus Day Monday, chances of heavy rain decrease throughout the morning and lead to periods of clouds and sunshine in the afternoon. Temperatures rise from the low to mid-70s.

Sunshine will be back for the middle of the week as temperatures will be in the 70s on Tuesday and Wednesday.
