What’s next for Pope Leo after lung cancer surgery?

Pope Leo is being released from the hospital Saturday after lung cancer surgery, the Vatican said.

Earlier this week, doctors removed the lower lobe of his right lung after identifying a suspected cancerous nodule. The surgery confirmed he had adenocarcinoma, the most common type of lung cancer.

“All Things Considered” host Scott Detrow, who co-author of “American Pope: Leo XIV’s Road from the South Side of Chicago to Vatican City,” with Daniel Burke, joined WTOP’s Alan Etter to discuss the pope’s recovery and what’s next for the 71-year-old.
