If you love watching food competitions on television, Five Guys has cooked up something for you.
The Alexandria, Virginia-based hamburger chain has released a video docuseries called “On The Line: The World Burger Games.”
“You’re going to see a competition,” Molly Catalano, a spokesperson at Five Guys, told WTOP. “So you’ll see cheese stacking, potato cutting, a QC race, which is like a dressing of a burger. But you’ll also learn about the stories and the heart.”
The video docuseries is based on Five Guys Games, a companywide competition that started in 2013 to bring together employees from restaurants around the world.
Now celebrating its 40th anniversary, Five Guys currently operates 2,000 locations in 30 countries.
“There’s some drama in the employees who work at Five Guys,” she said. “So it’s really about the eight finalists as well as a few other Five Guys employees and their stories.”
At stake? A six-figure grand prize.
“The very first time we had a big event, we actually gave the employees a choice of a car or money, and then money won, and we’ve continued with money,” she said. “And so the grand prize winner wins $100,000.”
The second-place winner pockets $50,000 and third place takes home $25,000.
Catalano said Five Guys also taxes the winnings before workers compete so they can actually take home that amount of money.
The series was produced by Full Day Productions, known for its intense sports and entertainment programming, in collaboration with Lost Tribe Creative.
And who’s going to watch?
“I think it’s going to be fans of Five Guys,” Catalano said. “And then fans of human-interest sports stories.”
“We think it’s a good family show,” she added. “We think that people who have ever worked in restaurants, which I think is everybody, will really appreciate seeing behind the scenes.”
All five episodes are now available on Amazon’s Prime Video.
